Surely Unforgettable, GMUN 2011! (Part 2)

Important to be taken as a note: if we found the conference room for each committee was quite desolate, it’s not like what it actually seen! Don’t judge book by it’s cover, the heat was still on, it’s only remove into another room. In GMUN we called it as the Informal Consultation meeting – place where the delegates are gathering and discussed about the draft resolution. Even the resolution can be born in the most silent debate! That’s the power of will to reach the consensus.

Third, there were awesome Korean cultural attractions on every dinner ocassion, even for the best party we ever had in the Farewell Dinner session. Yes! We were sweating wearing formal attire!

Fourth, there were some booths outside the conference room, GMUN gave us the delegates the opportunity to make plausible memory while we were in South Korea. Such booths existed were pottery, traditional Korean fan, traditional necklace, and we are allowed to take a picture with Korean traditional cloth called Hanbok.

The Fifth point we impossibly left is new friends! The interesting part is to keep in touch with them after the conference, thanks to the internet! And one more door open in front of us! Are we ready to welcome the richness of international events?! Let’s participate in some other MUN all around the world! Take a chance!

HNMUN 2012 :-)

In the past 7 months, the 20 delegates already do lots of paper and speech in training in order to prepare themself for HNMUN 2012. Every twice a week the delegates do the training, learn how to make a good position paper, working paper and draft resolutions. Not only that, the delegates also learn how to make a good speech.

Finally Universitas Padjadjaran Delegation for HNMUN 2012 will be off to USA on 12 February 2012. It's surely been ups and downs. The delegates already received lots of material to do speech and make position paper from the Faculty Advisor. Now, they are ready to face the real sessions in HNMUN 2012 :D

Goodluck delegates! May you all nail in HNMUN 2012 :D

Taylor's MUN 2011- A Story from Petaling Jaya

Hi all,

First of all, maybe many of you guys will ask, “Where is Petaling Jaya?” But for us who attend Taylor’s Model United Nations 2011, this is so familiaaar place!

Petaling Jaya is located outside Kuala Lumpur. Yes, TMUN 2011 is held in Malaysia at Taylor’s University Lake Side Campus, September 9th till 11th
2011. Unpad delegation for TMUN comes from three faculties which is economics, law and social and politic science. Here we are Muhammad Hidayat (Dayat) (FH), Eliazer Mikhael (Eli), Emma Ika M. (Emma) (FE), Idealisa Fitriana (Dea), Zelfa Lola (Lola), Chella Saradhina (Chella) , Riska Setiawati (Riska) and Viddy M. Naufal (Viddy) (FISIP).

Like other MUNs, TMUN 2011 give us the experiences to negotiating, lobbying and make a resolutions in 4 committee sessions. Unpad delegate members fill 4 committees in TMUN; UNSC, DISEC, UNHRC and ECOSOC. Hot debates absolutely happened in this MUN. But Unpad delegate shows their capability to deal with this situation. Like in my committee, UNHRC with our topic discussion is human trafficking; our draft resolution can be accepted generally after we lobbied other blocs. As well in other committee, Unpad students play a big role in each session. Another evidence of our big role, Unpad delegate can ‘steal’ one award available by Idealisa. Dea won “Best Position Paper Award” in her committee, DISEC *congrats, Dea!!! Other sessions in TMUN 2011 are opening ceremony TMUN 2011, speaker sessions by Dr. Ong Kian Ming (the topic is ‘Ethnic Conflict and Election) and Edmund Bon (the topic is ‘Malaysian Perspective on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ and last but not least, PARTY, either at first or our last night in TMUN 2011.

We enjoy this event. We can get new experiences from this event: Making new friends from other countries or Indonesian, learn a lot from the conferences and also get some short holiday at Negeri Jiran Malaysia. Hehe.. Oya, we also become very compact with fellow delegates from Indonesia since we live in the same hotels, in Ruemz or in Suns Inns. We usually come to the venue together, discussion about important issues and topics in TMUN together and also ‘berpusing – pusing’ Kuala Lumpur – Petaling together. Aah.. Sweet memories..

TMUN 2011 is over; this is the time to keep our nice memory about it. Getting the Taylor’s bus (to reach the venue) together, discuss and make draft resolution together in each room till 6 in the morning (without sleep, and we must attend the session at 9 am) having a late dinner at Wan’s Corner (the nearest restaurant from Suns Inns, also maybe become our favorite restaurant at Petaling :p ) together, shopping at Sunway Pyramids and going around KL. Yeah, this is not only about MUN. This is about the great time we spend in Malaysia together J See you in other MUNs guys!

Surely Unforgettable, GMUN 2011! (Part 1)

Unlike the other MUN / model United Nations, this third annual GMUN 2011 (Global Model United Nations) surely unforgettable.

by: Dyah Ayu Prima Rukmi - International Relations 2008

First, it was directed by the UN itself.

Second, it was held in Incheon, the International city of South Korea and it was summer – summer in Korea, could you imagine that?!

What is the surprised-center in this model United Nations? We were expecting for UN Secretary-General’s presence in the conference – His Excellency Ban Ki-Moon. We have this very rare opportunity to take photograph with him! But unfortunately, not all of the delegation from all committee in The General Assembly can take a picture with him. He left the Premier Ballroom earlier than we expected after His Excellency gave speech to all of the delegates. Although there are some disappointed faces (yes, from The Forth Committee which didn’t get the chance), still, the delegates were cheering and they agreed to make it as their once-upon-a-time life experience.

So, that’s enough for five seconds euphoria, now we’re back to tell you about this four days conference. Indeed, The General Assembly was divided into four committees, well known as the First Committee about Disarmament and International Security – this committee usually took debate issues about security, defense efforts, and sensitive international issues that directly face to face with hard politics. Let’s call it as the best friend of politic-military actions.

The Second Committee is about Economic and Financial – many ideas about welfare are really in tight correlation with this committee. International issues was hot on the floor, in GMUN 2011, the issue in this committee was about the sustainable development and improving market. The Third Committee well-known as Social, Humanitarian and Cultural committee being attracted to the issue about education and gender. It is not too exaggerating if we are regarding the Third Committee as the spotlight for soft politic concern. And now the Fourth Committee for Special Political and Decolonization part of The General Assembly. It’s been a pleasure to talk the real politic with representing each of our country interest. Diverse point of view of each country politic must meet in the same spot in order to come out with the single-consensus understanding towards the topic. That’s the challenge!
